HomeZwift Joining a BBC Ride

 

The BBC Zwift season begins just after the last outdoor ride. If you're new to Zwift, select Zwift/Equipment and Setup for help with equipment choices and setup prerequisites. The rides for each week are posted on the Zwift Companion app, Club BBC MadisonWe use a Discord Channel if you want to talk with other BBC Zwifters during a ride. The Wed pm and Sat am rides use Keep Together mode. Sunday am rides are hillier and Keep Together mode is not enabled.

Signing Up For a Ride


To join any BBC Zwift ride, you must sign up for each ride on the Zwift Companion app before its start time.

  • From the Zwift Companion app, Select CLUBS then BBC Madison
  • Select  CLUB EVENTS and use the  ▶  arrow to scroll left/right and select the BBC Event(s) you intend to ride

  •  You'll now see the Event's Date, Route, Duration etc.:

 

  • Lastly, you must select   to join the ride in a selected power group (we only use one, 1-5 w/kg) The  +  button changes to a check mark. Select the check mark if you need to remove yourself from an Event 


Getting Zwift Notifications
Notifications are useful to let you know when the next BBC Zwift Event is created and ready for you to signup. You must enable notifications both in Zwift Companion and your phone:


Zwift Companion App:

  • Select CLUBS then BBC Madison
  • At top right, select the 3 dots
  • Select CLUB NOTIFICATIONS
  • CLUB EVENTSSelect ON

iPhone:

  • Settings
  • Notifications
  • Companion, choose Allow Notifications and your preferred notification style

Discord Setup

  • As needed, download the Discord app for your phone/tablet or Windows pc. If you're going to be using discord for Zwift, make sure Discord and Zwift are run on different devices
  • You'll need a Discord account. If you don't have one, select Create Discord Account  
  • Join the BBC Discord server, BBC Madison. Select https://discord.gg/PxjxmnSnUK then accept the invite

Using Discord

  • Start the Discord app on your device or from a web browser by selecting https://discord.gg/PxjxmnSnUK
  • Server: Select BBC Madison from your Discord servers on the left
  • Text Channels: Pick the most relevant one to ask questions, share ride experiences, routes or to sell some surplus cycling related equipment or
  • Voice Channel: Select the voice channel Zwift. You are now live with the BBC Zwift riders who are in this Voice Channel
    • A wired or wireless headset or earbuds with built-in microphone is strongly recommended. This reduces the background fan and trainer noise others will hear
    • As needed, select🎙️to mute/unmute. The noise cancellation isn’t perfect, if others can hear your background noise, it's best to stay on mute then unmute to talk
    • At the end of the ride, select the 📞 button to disconnect from the voice channel


Riding the Event
Ideally, be on your trainer 20 min early to check everything is working and to warm up.
  • Start the Zwift App on your device. It will automatically pair with your smart trainer, heart rate and cadence etc. sensors
  • Select the BBC Club Event or any ride you want to use to warmup
  • Selec RID and start pedaling. About 5 minutes before the start time, the  JOIN EVENT  button pops up at the lower left. Select it to be teleported to the BBC route with the other BBC riders


  • At the designated start time, we're off

  • The ride will end automatically when the distance, time or laps is complete. From  MENU  end your ride and  SAVE  to Strava, Garmin, TrainingPeaks etc.
